about

The innovative UK synthpop act THE RUDE AWAKENING present a fabulous new song with a pertinent message for these troubled times. Entitled “It’s OK Not to Be OK”, this very timely release is the duo’s personal take on the psychological fragility of modern humanity in a world where we feel we have to appear to look ok, even when we’re suffering and need help.

The Radio Mix is the first of a two-stage release, and will be followed by an E.P. of six additional and very different remixes by independent electronic producers (People Theatre, Mr Strange, Tin Gun, Parralox, Lord & Master, Keldari Station.

The Rude Awakening’s Johnny Normal suggests “when many of us feel we have hit rock bottom or are struggling to deal with life around us, we can sometimes compound our own pain and mental pressure by deliberately hiding the fact we are not coping from people we love. But it’s actually OK to admit that we are not OK. Take a deep breath and say “I’m not coping very well at the moment” and ask for help.”

“It’s OK Not to Be OK” follows on from THE RUDE AWAKENING’s catchy synthpop single “Squeal!” and is the second song to be released from their forthcoming album.

THE RUDE AWAKENING consists of Johnny Normal and Bridget Gray, a synthpop song- writing/performing duo since 2018 whose debut album “Kaleidoscope” featured in The Electricity Club’s shortlist of top albums of 2019. They also have been collaborating and remixing for artists such as B-Movie, Birmingham Electric, The Livelong June and Peter Godwin. A covers E.P. featuring songs penned by Erasure, Gary Numan, OMD and Japan will be released shortly on their own label AbNormal.

lyrics

When you’re on your own and your friends have gone
And you feel alone. Wondering what’s gone wrong.

Lying in your bed with an aching head
Trying to recall all those things they said
And it don’t make sense and you don’t belong
Why are they so right? Why am I so wrong?

You chastise yourself for the smallest thing
You despise yourself for the man you became

Take a minute step away from your phone
One deep breath and listen to your soul
Close your eyes and try to embrace
Long summer days with the sun on your face
Friends falling over, getting stuck in a lift
Your snow-covered car that’s hard to shift
Sticking your head in a birthday cake
Wobbly crappy poetry took ages to make

Don’t think for a minute that they’re all having fun
Don’t imagine for a second that you’re the only one
Don’t pull yourself to pieces cos it’s not your day
It happens to the best of us. It’s ok not to be ok

Take a minute step away from your phone
One deep breath and listen to your soul
Close your eyes and try to embrace
Long summer days with the sun on your face
Friends falling over, getting stuck in a lift
Your snow-covered car that’s hard to shift
Sticking your head in a birthday cake
Wobbly crappy poetry took ages to make

I’m not saying drop your standards. You should still expect the best
Just don’t beat yourself forever. And give yourself a rest
And when life gets too scary to be right at the edge
Give yourself a moment. Some time to reflect.
It’s ok not to be ok

When you’re on your own and your friends have gone
And you feel alone. Wondering what’s gone wrong
Lying in your bed with an aching head
Trying to recall all those things they said

Take a minute step away from your phone
One deep breath and listen to your soul
Close your eyes and try to embrace
Long summer days with the sun on your face
Friends falling over, getting stuck in a lift
Your snow-covered car that’s hard to shift
Sticking your head in a birthday cake
Wobbly crappy poetry took ages to make

When you’re on your own and your friends have gone
And you feel alone. Wondering what’s gone wrong.
It’s ok not to be ok

about

The Rude Awakening UK

THE RUDE AWAKENING is an intriguing synth act from the UK that expands on the substratum that Synth and Post-punk pioneers Gary Numan, PiL, Soft Cell and OMD began building in the early 1980’s.
