The innovative UK synthpop act THE RUDE AWAKENING have combined with wonderful synth-sleazers MECHANICAL CABARET to present a fabulously fresh re-work of their 2006 classic ‘SEE HER SMILE’… released on 1st June on their AbNormal label.

The Rude Awakening’s Bridget Gray: “We were delighted when Roi agreed to a collaboration on this particular song, as it has long been a favourite of ours. Johnny and I are big Mechanical Cabaret fans. We retained the dark, sexy vibe that Mechanical Cabaret are known for, and weaved through some signature sounds, textures and percussion of The Rude Awakening, as well as additional vocals and Johnny’s production work. It was fun from start to finish.”

Based in the delightful utopia of North London, MECHANICAL CABARET is Roi M. Cabaret (Songs/Vocals/Electronics), Stephen J. Bellamy (Synths etc), and Tobie Chandler (live Synths). Founded in 1999, Mechanical Cabaret make edgy, energetic synthesizer noises and atmospheric, frequently filthy, throbbing, bass-line driven industrial strength 'pop-songs' with directly honest, hopefully insightful, socially analytical, perhaps inspiring, often sardonic lyrics - all delivered with an unhealthy dose of typically British black humour.

THE RUDE AWAKENING consists of Johnny Normal and Bridget Gray, a synthpop song-writing/performing duo since 2018 whose debut album “Kaleidoscope” featured in The Electricity Club’s shortlist of top albums of the year. They also have been collaborating and remixing for artists such as B-Movie, Birmingham Electric, The Livelong June and Peter Godwin. A covers E.P. featuring songs penned by Erasure, Gary Numan, OMD and Japan was released on 1st May on their own label AbNormal.
